mini elastic point

Found this wonderful rest of a flower and learned anthem, filament and stamen as part of a structure of a flower: http://andromeda.cavehill.uwi.edu/flower_structure_and_function.htm. I realised that structure does not always mean ‚industrial‘ structure. Maybe I’m taken in by a personal misinterpretation. Fascinating that at such a minimal spot is so much mobility. Videos here: https://vimeo.com/39195112 To explain though quickly: the little black element (anther) is highly flexible. It is connected with the filament at a minimal point, at least in terms what I am able to notice and perceive with my eyes.

Hooks

These are the hooks from the elastic installation / exhibition NIEA PoPuP in the Rocks.

RRRelasticity

I am aiming to raise the idea for relativity, reference and relations within the concept of elasticity. Even if something is elastic it still relates to a context, it is not absolutely without context, it refers furthermore to an existing (hybrid) structure. The „R“ in front of „elastic“ radicalizes the idea of reference and relativity. „R“ is therefore an agent provokateur.

UTC – time adjustment in Australia

This weekend the time got adjusted in Australia. The Coordinated Universal Time (abbreviated UTC) is the primary time standard by which the world regulates clocks and time (http://www.nist.gov/pml/div688/utcnist.cfm#cut). Our perception is rather unelastic and we try to regulate, determine and establish in form of norms, guidelines, codes, behaviours, findings or rationales. These findings are worded in laws. Considerably many of these laws are broken, bent, constantly new negotiated, situationally interpreted. According to the area of context we can find more static and more soft norms. I found the committee for tolerances (http://www.ncwm.net/content/st) in the US working for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Institute_of_Standards_and_Technology and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Conference_on_Weights_and_Measures. Therefore even the tolerances are determined. This is about the human notion for accuracy and preciseness which does not exist in the end. As it is not possible to demonstrate and constitute fixed laws we are working with the idea of ratio, proportion and relation to achieve a kind of stability and ability for operation. These can be seen at ‚if – then‘ statements and conditions. The committees, institutions and conferences are meeting in iterative, periodically place taking annual meetings for coordination and reconciliation of their decisions. During these meetings it is decided as well on follow-ups, reformations and reorganizations of existing laws. In terms of adjustments of times it is amazing how the world is continuing to turn, not caring of what we humans regulate around it. Isn’t it fascinating that we experience a time difference of 8 hours to Europe during Australian winter while in summer (European winter) we have 10 hours of difference. And in between we experience 1 month of transition or adaptation time as the Europeans change their time sometimes  end of October. This shows how flexible time is.

More Postits

Wonderful idea of how to work with Postits. It is nice that these Postits have no further information, just their colour which was the reason how they got arranged. This was seen at the open day at SCA. Like it.

Nature breaks through

Another photostream on observations on nature. With this collection on images I am documenting when nature seems to reach out, connect or breaks through, ignoring the borders from human beings. Can be seen here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bonanzabullshit/sets/72157627676417997/show/

Natural rhizomes

The analogy to nature is obvious. Still fascinating and I won’t end to look at more. I hope to find a key in these analogies to move further. Start of this photostream can be seen at

Trees

Started to look at trees. Somehow these plants might be a resourceful object of observation due to the restricted relasticity. Trees can’t change their position but must remain flexible in order to be able to react to their environment, change of conditions. In this photo stream I am looking at trees as if they would look at me. As if they are persons and the part of their bark is their face. My friend Hiroko says that I am a tree, look like a tree and she gives all her children names of trees. With this image here I refer to an idea grown during the experimental arts workshop with Paul Thomas. I planned to use wrapping foil to wrap it around these massive fat trees in Centennial Park. Conceptionally this still needs more work but for now I put up the start of this collection.

Inter-, Cross-, Trans-, Multidisciplicinarity

1 aspect of relasticity is connectivity as well as hybridisation. In academic and creative practice the usage of inter-, cross-, trans-, and multidisciplinary approaches especially in relation to ’new media‘ is proclaimed very often. What is the real difference? And how can I make these concepts and thoughts fruitful for my investigation? I will give a presentation on these topics and their potential at the University of Salzburg. I am aware of the controversy and critique of these concepts.

Vibrant Matters 2

I was at the harbour to find a spot where I can send a message in the bottle. I found this picturesque scenery which reminded me of Jane Bennets description of found items and their agency in her book Vibrant Matters – read an interview here: Philosophy in a time of error.

Click on the image if you want to see the video – great material and sound for meditation! Or find it here on vimeo.

research question 2

How to cope with this multiplicity of possibilities? Through constantly improving technology we are experiencing an increasement in possibilities and therefore complexity. Our knowledge is extending, the capacity for agency gets multiplied. My undertaking has the intention to make this development more tangible, apparent and recognizable.
